Learning language and chatting up classmates

Comprehensible Classroom banner

The Comprehensible Classroom is filled with great collaborative activities for World Language classrooms, but I have never found a great activity here that could not be used in other subject areas as well. This is absolutely true of the collaborative interviews featured in this post. This lesson would certainly help students learn a new language, but it could also help them learn pragmatics like turn taking, providing wait time, and speaking at an appropriate volume (skills that many learners with disabilities may need to practice). This engaging activity could be differentiated by providing less complex or more complex questions to certain learners, allowing some students to interact using question cards or an augmentative communication device, or by simply being purposeful with your groupings.
