Myth brainstorming machine

Scholastic’s website has too many fabulous tools to mention in one post so we will be visiting them often on this blog. One of my favorite parts of the site is the myth brainstorming machine.

This nifty tool allows the user to click through and choose different characters (monsters, goddesses) and scenery to create a visual map of a myth. Then, students can click over to the idea outline tab and see a graphic organizer of the myth they have mapped. It is really fun for kids and it is sure to hook those learners who don’t know what to include in a myth or those who have a hard time organizing written work. For some learners, this tool will help them participate in a lesson they might not be otherwise able to access. A student with significant disabilities, for instance, might participate by simply choosing the setting for a myth or indicating a favorite character. Peers can then fill in other aspects of the story.
