TODD’S TECH TUESDAY: Do your students Skype?

As usual, we had a hard time picking one entry from a great new tech-oriented site we found.

Blogging About the Web 2.0 Connected Classroom is a fantastic site with a lot of information about using tech tools in learning and about motivating students with responsive instruction.

Our choice for today is this entry about how to use Skype in your classroom. There are so many great ways to use this tool including having learners “visit” with pen pals from another part of the world or phoning a favorite author or expert (e.g., WWII veteran) for a classroom Q & A.

In addition, you can use Skype to individualize instruction. Some enrichment ideas, for instance, include having learners connect with mentors in fields that interest them or allowing them to conduct authentic individual research projects by interviewing subjects across the miles (e.g., Hurricane Katrina survivors) and sharing findings with other students who share their interests.

You will find even more info on today’s post. As you read, consider a way to integrate Skype into a fun end-of-the-year activity. learning experience, or celebration.
