Think it isn’t possible to create fun lessons in middle school math? Don’t tell that to Sherrie at Middle School Math Rules.
Sherrie is responsible for this cool blacktop lesson on inequalities.
Many teachers think that differentiation is about instruction, but you can reach diverse learners by making changes in content, strategies, materials or environment as well. In this case, an environment change meant taking students outside so they could work their problems on the pavement instead of on their papers. The brain loves novelty and working outside the classroom is certainly a change that students would notice and enjoy, therefore, it should come as no surprise that this lesson was a hit both with students and with the teacher.
