FUN FRIDAY: Sight word game for school or home

So many kids balk at having to practice their sight words (and for good reason)– the task is often solitary and dull. Enter this cute little word game. This mom at The Everyday Homeschool calls it UNICORN, but you can change the name to something that intrigues your students.

I love the idea of having kids make their own games and practicing words in small groups. If different students need more challenging words, different groups can have different sets of words. Be sure to add in words based on learner interests. This often inspires students to learn more sophisticated words. A very young learner who loves cowboys for instance might be motivated to learn words like range, lasso, saddle, or rodeo in addition to simple two and three-letter words.
