Stations in the music classroom

Recently I posted five ways to use stations or centers in K-12 classrooms. I thought I had provided a nice range of examples and could move away from this format for a bit, but then I found this nice article from Karen Stafford on using station teaching in the music room and knew it had to be featured. Not only do I feel that using stations is ideal in music (after all, we want students to have many opportunities to demonstrate skills and perform in this class) but I also feel that we too often leave ideas for these teachers out of our workshops, books, and articles on differentiated instruction.

Keep in mind that stations and centers have many differentiation opportunities built right in to the structure. The stations can include a variety of materials, activities, and experiences and students can be assigned to visit all or just some of them.
