Take the planet for a spin

Science and social studies teachers alike will be interested in checking out Planet Diary. This interactive site allows users to spin on a rotating Earth and click on various pushpins “stuck” into regions around the word.

Each pin represents a current event such as a natural disaster and each click pulls up a short article on the issue. I know some students who would simply enjoy spinning the globe and guessing which pins are stuck in which regions. Others would be able to independently read about each incident and even engage in some of the linked activities.
